Educators want to lead. Teachers want to teach. Children want to learn. We see it every day in Detroit schools. The educational crisis in Detroit doesn’t stem from a lack of effort, it stems from a lack of equity, resources, training and tools. We’re working to change that by funding proven programs that increase access, quality and equity in schools.

Study after study has shown that the single most important factor in a student’s learning is a quality teacher in their classroom every day. Strong school leaders recruit and retain high-performing teachers by creating schools that systematically learn, innovate, and continuously improve over time. These are the kinds of schools that transform students’ lives and provide them the opportunities they deserve.

  • We train and develop school leaders.
  • We recruit, coach and reward successful teachers.
  • We create more opportunity and equity for students.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • DCF supports traditional district-run public schools and public, non-profit charter schools. We do not support private schools parochial schools, or charter schools run by for-profit companies.
  • Does DCF invest in schools directly?
    • Yes. We make investments in both nonprofit charter schools and DPSCD schools.
